In 2022, the Stevens County Fair took a significant step towards enhancing accessibility for all fair attendees by introducing handicap scooters to assist those with mobility challenges. This initiative was made possible through the generosity of another area county fair, which loaned the scooters to Stevens County Fair for use during their event. Grateful for this opportunity, fair organizers extended their heartfelt thanks to the partnering fair for allowing them to test the scooters.

The trial run proved highly successful, as the scooters performed admirably, providing a smooth and convenient experience for users. Recognizing the invaluable impact these scooters could have on fair accessibility, the Stevens County Fair team embarked on a mission to secure their own fleet. Through diligent efforts and a successful grant application, they were able to acquire a set of handicap scooters, eliminating the need to travel long hours for rental and return.

Fast forward to 2024, and the Stevens County Fair is proud to announce the availability of handicap scooters for fair attendees who may require them. To utilize these scooters, individuals can fill out a form available on the fair’s official website, stevenscountyfair.org, or visit the Stevens County Fair Info Booth before the desired day of use. The form requires information such as the date, time, and duration of scooter use, allowing fair organizers to accommodate as many requests as possible.

The duration of use for each handicap scooter will be two hours initially. However, if a unit is available and no one is waiting, fair organizers may allow users to extend their time. This flexibility ensures fairgoers can make the most of their experience without feeling rushed.

While there is a small fee associated with scooter use, it is designed to be affordable, ensuring accessibility for all. Additionally, to facilitate fairgoers’ convenience, there is a limit on the duration of scooter checkout, allowing fair organizers to rotate availability and accommodate multiple users throughout the day. The scooters themselves are designed with four wheels, a feature that enhances stability and minimizes the risk of tipping compared to traditionalthree-wheeled models.

Fair attendees can find the handicap scooters conveniently located at the Fair Info Booth, situated in front of the 4H Exhibit Building and not far from the designated handicap drop-off area. This strategic placement ensures easy access for those in need of mobility assistance, enhancing their overall fair experience.

With these initiatives, the Stevens County Fair reaffirms its commitment to inclusivity and accessibility, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the festivities and attractions that the fair has to offer.
